Introducción | Introduction

Soy Kayla Pretzer y estoy en mi tercero año en la universidad de Akron. Mi primer carrera es las comunicaciónes con una especialidad en las relaciones públicas y mi segundo es el español. Estoy participando en el program DISSTA porque la oportunidad de estudiar en España ha sido un sueño para mi desde que empecé a estudiar el español en la escuela secundaria.

Con el programa, quiero expandir mi visión del mundo y sumergirme en la cultura de España. Nunca he viajado fuera de los Estados Unidos antes de DISSTA. Para mi, es importante a explorar las culturas y países diferentes porque tengo mucho interés las historias de la gente, y quiero aprender más de los de las otras culturas. Espero que pueda mejorar mi competencia en la lengua, especialmente porque en el año pasado, no tomé ningunas clases de conversación. Quiero mejorar mis habilidades interpersonales con mi familia anfitriona y aprender más sobre sus vidas diarias. Cada día, quiero escribir a menos que 5 palabras nuevas en mi diario. En mis clases a la Universidad de Valladolid, espero que aprendo unos trucos a consolidar mi conocimiento de la lengua. Es importante a mi a aprender más sobre la historia del país porque tengo una pasión nueva por la lengua.

Para lograr mis metas, es necesario que yo pague atención en mis clases y pase mucho tiempo hablando con mi familia anfitriona y la gente de la ciudad. Estoy muy emocionada a experimentar la cultura y la gente en España y expandir mi visión del mundo.

In the blog above, I talk about who I am, as well as my personal and academic goals for my time in Spain. Currently, I am in my junior year at The University of Akron. My first major is Communications, with a specialization in Public Relations, and my second major is Spanish (who would have ever thought?). I am participating in the DISSTA program because it has been a dream of mine to study abroad since I began learning Spanish.

With the program, I want to expand my worldview and immerse myself in the culture. I have never traveled out of the country before this program, so while I am slightly nervous, I am extremely excited. For me, it is important to explore different cultures and countries because I have a lot of interest in people’s histories and stories and I want to learn more about their culture. I hope that I can better my proficiency in the language, especially because in the last year, I did not take any conversation classes. Most of my classes the past year focused on writing, so while I can write a six page analysis, my speaking skills feel weakened. I want to better my interpersonal speaking skills with my host family and learn more about their daily lives. Each day, I want to write a least five new words down in my journal. In my classes at La Universidad de Valladolid, I hope to learn some tricks to solidify my knowledge of the language. It’s important to me to learn more about the history as well, as I have found a new passion for the language.

To achieve my goals, it’s necessary that I pay attention in my classes and pass a lot of time speaking with my host family and locals. I am very excited to experience the culture and people in Spain and expand my worldview!
