If you know me at all, you know I'll drop almost anything and everything for a concert. The miles to travel doesn't matter, the money (kinda!!) doesn't matter (my bank account says other wise, but hey, I work as hard as I do for a reason)... whatever it takes to get to a venue with one of my favorite artists and hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of people, sign me up and I'm there.
And if you don't know me, hello! It's nice to meet you. I'm Kayla and music, concerts, and traveling for music and concerts is kind of my thing.
I've been know to be a "fangirl" for a while, which honestly was something I was kind of embarrassed about when I was younger. Actually, I kind of hated it (and still kind of do). There's such a negative connotation behind the word, but in reality, it's mainly just a bunch of really passionate people.
When I find something that I'm passionate about, I jump and I'm all in. This combination of music, concerts, entertainment and travel was, and still is, something that makes me ridiculously happy. And not just the "oh, this made me smile" or "this is great," kind of happy. It's the kind of happy that puts a spark in my eyes and a glow on my face. It's a happiness that consumes me, a happiness that's hard to put into words. It isn't just a hobby for me, or something fun to do for a night or two — it's how I escape from reality.
There's just something about when the lights go down and the stage lights up. You can feel the anticipation and excitement in the crowd. You forget about your to-do list, your stressors, anything painful. The entire venue is connected. We're all there for a reason. We're most likely with people we love. There's something magical about it all.
Music makes memories, and there's no doubt in my mind that music brings people together. I see it at every show I go to; a mom taking her young daughters to their first concert, friends reuniting in the aisles, people passing out signs to hold up during a certain song, a couple hugging during a love song. Some people are dancing in the aisles, others are screaming the lyrics to every song, a few people might be brought to tears. At the end of the day, for a couple hours, there's unity — let's call it all joy.
Out of all of my 21, almost 22 years of existing here on this Earth, some of my most vivid, vibrant, and joyful memories are at show. It's tradition that at least one of my sisters and I see Taylor Swift together every time she tours. I met one of my best friends waiting in a meet and greet line. Some of my closest friends live hundreds of miles away. One summer, I basically became friends with a security guard because I saw him at multiple shows. I've traveled to places I never would have traveled to otherwise (ie: I still don't know how my friends and I ended up in Wisconsin...). I wouldn't change a single second.
Here's to me traveling to shows and pretending I'm on tour for the rest of my life. Welcome to my journey!
